In August, 1851, the Falls County Commissioners court donated three Marlin city lots as sites for Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches.  The Rev. Z.N. Morrell, pioneer preacher and evangelist selected a lot later designated as the southeast corner of Ward and Church Street for a local Baptist Church.  He organized the Marlin Baptist Church of Christ with ten charter members on April 10, 1852.  Early worship services were held in a log courthouse, later in a two-story schoolhouse, and then in 1898 a ‘modern’ church building was constructed.

In 1902 this congregation became the First Baptist Church of Marlin.  They purchased the site on which the church is now located in 1915.  The Rev. S. D. Dollahite preached the first sermon in the new structure in 1929.  Educational buildings were added in 1950 and 1975.

On April 9, 1978, one year after celebrating its 125th birthday, the church unveiled the historical marker, granted by the Texas Historical Survey Commission.  Twenty five years later, in 2002, the church celebrated its 150th birthday under the pastoral leadership of C.W. Parker.

Grateful for the many ways that God has blessed the FBC family in the past, we look forward in eager anticipation to what God has in store for both today and tomorrow.  We invite you to be a part of that great work!
